One of only two Brazilian artists selected to perform at WOMEX 2014 in Santiago de Compostela, the Bahia based Sertanilia offers a sound that is truly Brazilian in its essence, drawing inspiration from the music and culture of the “Sertao” (northeastern backlands known for their severe draughts and hard living conditions). With a unique style both lyrical and powerful, they renew these rich traditions incorporating contemporary elements, instrumentation and musicianship. Sertanilia is led by Aiace (vocals), Anderson Cunha (viola, guitar, musical direction) and Diogo Flores (percussion.) Additional instrumentation includes percussion, guitar and cello.
In just four years, Sertanilia has enchanted audiences at events of great importance on the Brazilian national scene and have toured internationally to Lisbon and Coimbra (Portugal, 2010), Tensamba (Madrid, 2011) and Brazilian Summer Sessions in Amsterdam. They have already been recognized with several of the most important awards available in Brazil, in 2013 winning the Premio Dynamite for independent music – Best Regional Album (having received Dynamite nominations in the two previous years) and were nominated for the Premio da Musica Brasileira (Brazil’s Grammy)
